Oscar Wilde also said: A work of art is useless. So is a flower. then James Baldwin said: The purpose of art is to lay bare the questions that have been hidden by the answers.
I am going to write about my visit to the Courtauld Gallery soon which sent me to these quotes. What is the purpose of art if not to help us look inside ourselves? If we could argue that looking at flowers helps our soul to heal, art can either help or challenge this process and change it for better or worse perhaps?

I liked Cristian’s musings on art and I completely agree with your response. Our art brings out what is in our souls so that we can see it, and analyze it, and accept it, and work through it, and share our inner beauty with the world.

It all comes from going to see a most wonderful Art Museum earlier this week – despite all the snow! We took friends to the Courtauld Gallery next door to Somerset house. On Mondays it is completely free! The collection was put together by Mr Courtauld over the years and it is was donated and is the centre of The Courtauld Institute of Art for art history and conservation. I’m going to put up some photos now from it…. keeping looking!
